Lunchtime Learning event on the Local Transport Plan 11th May

One Nottingham is inviting colleagues to a Lunchtime Learning event on the Local Transport Plan 2011 – 2026. This will be a chance to hear how we’re looking to develop the new Local Transport Plan (LTP) for the City of Nottingham which will be adopted in April 2011. We’re now at an important phase of the development of the new 15-yr strategy as we look to seek your views on our key challenges for transport and present a series of options for addressing them. The LTP will set the strategic vision for improving transport and consider key interventions which will be implemented. The LTP will seek to respond to national transport policy covering such crucial issues as supporting economic growth, tackling climate change, promoting equality of opportunity, improving quality of life and contributing to better safety, security and health and links closely to the objectives of the Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Development Framework.

Digital Inclusion Seminar

The Department of Communities and Local Government (CLG) has recently appointed Digital Inclusion Advisors to be made available to work with Local Authorities to explore issues and opportunities for Digital Inclusion within our cities. One Nottingham is the first Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) in the country to work with the Digital Inclusion Advisors.

CLG describe Digital Inclusion as “The use of technology either directly or indirectly to improve the lives and life chances of people and the places in which they live”.

On behalf of One Nottingham, in partnership with Nottingham City Council and Connected Nottingham I would like to invite you to attend Nottingham’s Digital Inclusion Seminar taking place on Wednesday 2^nd December from 1.15pm in Nottingham’s BioCity.

The seminar will hear the Digital Inclusion Advisors findings and recommendations, based on consultations carried out with the LSP and partners and will offer the opportunity to plan next steps and develop an action plan to tackle the cities digital divide issues.

Help for community projects from One Nottingham

Four community projects from across the city will receive a helping hand when One Nottingham presents them with grant aid cheques on Friday 25 September.

The cheque presentations will be made to the groups by the One Nottingham Board at 12.30pm following their meeting at the New Art Exchange in Hyson Green. The groups that will be receiving the cheques have all recently been awarded funding from the One Nottingham Small Grants Scheme.

Open Minds have been awarded £2580 for an innovative project to promote community cohesion
Friends of Trinity School Show Band received £4673 to host a youth band contest at Harvey Hadden Stadium
Signpost to Polish Success received £8825 to hold a Polish festival in the city celebrating Polish culture and that of other ethnic groups living in the city
Edwards Lane Music Club, which teaches and promotes the playing of music to young people, was awarded £2458 towards the purchase of sheet music, CDs and tuition fees.

The One Nottingham Small Grants Scheme is part of the Government’s strategy for regenerating the most deprived neighbourhoods. The programme is managed for One Nottingham by the Nottinghamshire Community Foundation which is an independent Charity.

Chair of One Nottingham, John Collins, said: ‘Our community and voluntary sector makes a major contribution to the social, economic, cultural and environmental well-being of Nottingham. I’d like to thank all the groups for their work to support and improve life in our city. The Grant Aid funding that we’ve awarded these groups demonstrates One Nottingham’s recognition of that work and the commitment shown by members of these organisations.’

Comprehensive Area Assessment

Over the summer the LGA has been “taking the temperature” from leaders and officers on how CAA is being implemented. They want to know whether the ambitions are being realised, whether there are patterns emerging about the needs for future improvement support and what the experience tells us about the future of inspection and assessment. The analysis has been brought together in “CAA: how is it measuring up so far?” which is available to download from the LGA website at http://www.lga.gov.uk/lga/publications/publication-display.do?id=3884352. There are still significant concerns with the system, and as a result the LGA is calling on the Local Government Minister, John Denham and the Audit Commission to ensure that the Inspectorates deliver on the ambition for CAA by working together more effectively at local level and delivering the promised reduction in the burden of assessment. For the longer term the LGA Improvement Board is developing proposals on the shape of inspection and assessment in the future.

BIG10 Awards

The awards aim to recognise and reward the contribution that local people and volunteers make to their communities – throughout Nottingham but with a focus on Area 4. SCS Launch Event

One Nottingham are holding a special event to launch The Nottingham Plan to 2020, the city’s new Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS), at 5pm on Monday 5 October at the Council House.

The Nottingham Plan to 2020 is a route map for organisations in the city, and for our citizens and communities, and sets out a clear vision of what the city should look like in the future. It will help us work together with local people, our diverse communities, voluntary groups and businesses and all the partners in One Nottingham to make change happen. The Plan reflects the views of the many people who have helped to shape it.

The event will feature a range of information stands each showing work around The Nottingham Plan to 2020 priorities and there will be an opportunity to network with colleagues.

Guest speakers at the launch include Councillor Jon Collins – Chair of One Nottingham and Leader of the City Council and Jane Todd – Nottingham City Council Chief Executive and local people who have helped to shape the plan.

Light refreshments will be available and the event will conclude at 6.30pm.

SCS Launch

Nottingham’s Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS), it’s 10 year plan for 2020, is to be launched on 5th October. A launch event for partners is to take place at the Council House. Neighbourhood events are to follow. Accessible versions of the SCS will be available, with versions specifically aimed at residents and businesses. Watch this space.
